My basement, my life
One of the first things the "new" window guy did yesterday, I told them not to bring a window guy, that I had already signed a deal on windows, but they did anyway, was stick some newfangled electric measuring tape across the kitchen window and knock down a bunch of decorative glassware. He broke a nice depression plate and a glass rabbit that has been in the family for a long, long time.
The recently repaired Bunny standing tall next to a very old 1 oz. bottler of Metaxa that I found in my basement.
A bad omen indeed. Somehow I wasn't impressed by him or the lack enthusiasm shown by their plumbing and heating guy. Scratch that one.
But, I'm happy to report my basement is completely clear, you could ride a bike there now. The junk has been properly shuffled, moved and discarded so that after all the work is done I'll be able to buy or build shelving and completely organize. Ebay lookout!
And, luckily the grass cutters came between rains. And, the junk hauling guy came yesterday to negotiated a fee to remove the basement detritus. Things are indeed looking up and I can enjoy a brief respite from the basement wars.
Of course the other aspects of life never stop in their battle for dominance so it's also incumbent upon me to continue to be loving, caring and wise, patient and kind, generous and gregarious while pulling out what little hair I have left, all the while ignoring personal hygiene because, it just takes too much time ... I stink therefore I am.
My back has held out which really surprises me, it's probably waiting for some innocuous moment to go. And, speaking of surprises, a surprise knee attack has had me lying awake at night wondering why I can walk for hours normally but as soon as I try to do something constructive and productive it craps out on me. Luckily, (this time, in the most perverse sense) when you reach a certain age, pain becomes a way of life so it's no biggie.
I found a cool green decanter in my mom's old shit and brought it up. My plan is to sneak more and more shit up and maybe my wife won't notice! Gene
