Hi,
I'm a new blogger. It sounds funny to call myself a blogger. I'm not even sure what a blogger does but if it's what I think it is, I have all the qualification; an opinion, a willingness to express it and now, the tools. I named my site PittsbughThoughts because I have some things to say about what happens here in Pittsburgh but not only in Pittsburgh. I may think them here but they transcend geographic boundaries, just like yours do.
I decided to blog because it is the new Town Hall. I live in West Mifflin, not in Pittsburgh proper but I was born in Pittsburgh and growing up there shaped my character for good and bad. I'm 54 and retired with a disability. Hence, Social Security is one of my concerns. I've been a tradesman all my life, a union electrician. I've worked in and helped build from the ground up; hospitals, steel mills, board rooms, office buildings, schools and factories. But as rewarding as that was in my youth, as I grew older work became less so. My penchant for self examination and looking deep into the nature of things drove into strange areas and often put me at odds with my fellow man and woman. Arrogance and stupidity have been my companions and my burdens.
What do I intend to accomplish by blogging? Boy, you had to ask that one huh? I hope that it's a way to challenge and drive myself to shake off some of the complacency that diminishes the soul. But, it's not just about me, that would be fascinating to me but boring as hell to you. I've heard it said that paying back is a small account and that whatever one puts in is always enough. So too, whatever feedback I receive will be enough. For now I just want to express clearly and concisely what and where my thinking, reading and inquiry takes me. I know I'm not alone in my views but views are ephemeral and transient and always subject to revision so I'll try my best to deliver them with equanimity and balance. Gene
